Dakota Fanning's '60s-Inspired Mod Moment
Dressing for the seven days of fashion week is quite the task for any fashion editor. For a self proclaimed "pants-phobic" like myself, seven days of skirts and dresses isn't always that exciting. I challenged myself to wear pants for a day this season, and as the denim editor for the magazine, decided that wearing a pair of jeans would be the best place to start.
I have a closet full of all the latest and greatest from Teen Vogue's favorite denim brands, but decided my foray into the pants world would require some creativity. Lucky for me there are a wealth of customization companies that will make your jeans one of a kind.
I contacted Denim Refinery, a brilliant online custom denim service that makes old jeans into something fresh and new, to help me make some denim magic. I provided three pairs, a Marc by Marc Jacobs (we love their new denim launch) dark denim classic slim fit style, a NEUW lavender crop skinny (new brand to check out!), and a J.Brand (tried and true must have) high waist white denim flare for customization. Using the website as a guide I specified which treatment I wanted for each pair. It seemed neon pink splatter paint "GRAFFITI’D" would make the purple jeans super Teen Vogue-worthy and reminicient of Proenza Schouler’s graffiti jeans in Fall 2010. The bleach treatment, "GALAXY’D," would give the dark skinnies extra edge (perhaps akin to the cloud-like bleach splatters at Henry Holland’s Spring show) and that a lilac ombre dye "OMBRE’D" would make the white jeans fresh and unique (afterall I still lust for Dries Van Noten’s dip dye jeans from last Spring). It was as simple as sending in my jeans, and coordinating my treatments via email with the talented team at Denim Refinery.
