Jewelry as fine as designer Irene Neuwirth’s deserves to be treated like art. Her one-of-a-baubles, with their rare, colorful stones and raw, unmanufactured gem cuts, have ranked among Barneys’ top sellers, earned the designer a nod as a CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, and garnered celebrity fans such as Angelina Jolie. It is therefore fitting that Irene is the latest designer to open a TriBeCa pop-up shop for BOFFO, a non-profit that pairs New York architects and designers such as Nicola Formichetti to create innovative temporary retail environments.

Irene partnered with architect Marc Fornes to create a Wonderland-esque space replete with a gold-infused aluminum sculpture and a wall of live green foliage. The glass display cases make the jewelry look as though it is floating in mid-air. Though Irene’s pieces are expensive (prices start at around $1,500 and can run over $100,000), it is worth visiting the shop to gaze at the precious stones and meet Irene, who will be in the store every day with her Labradoodle, Teddy. That’s right: diamonds and dogs. It doesn’t get any better. [More]
